Sean Hepburn Ferrer, Audrey Hepburn’s son, wrote his mother’s biography, Audrey Hepburn: An Elegant Spirit, and thought it would be wonderful to turn that story into a picture book. This book came to life through the collaboration of Sean and Karin Hepburn Ferrer, along with Dominique Corbasson and François Avril. Artist and illustrator Dominique Corbasson, while battling cancer, poured every last ounce of herself into leaving this work behind, and her husband François Avril completed it in her stead. As I worked on the design for the Korean edition, I came to truly learn about the life of Audrey Hepburn beyond the name and the familiar face. In her life as a mother after her acting career, and in her humanitarian path, I felt a quiet, swelling emotion—and a deep sense of respect. For the Korean edition alone, I also joyfully created a list of her stage and film appearances, along with five illustrated postcards that recreate scenes from her movies. It’s a book I’d love to recommend to Audrey Hepburn’s fans, and just as warmly to anyone, of any age, who may not yet know much about her.
