이제 막 짝을 이룬 새들이 있는 울창한 숲에 어느 날 포클레인이 몰려와 숲을 허뭅니다. 새들은 어디로 가야할까요. 새들은 거대한 바위로 보이는 아파트 숲을 마주하고 이곳저곳을 헤맵니다. 우리에게 집은 무엇을 의미할까. 자연과 사람, 숲과 빌딩 숲은 공존할 수 있을까. 여러 다양한 질문을 통해 더 나은 미래를 고민해 보는 책입니다. 앞표지와 뒤표지를 책등을 통해 연결하고자 했습니다. 앞표지의 평화로운 숲과, 뒤표지의 오래된 동네 풍경을 통해 책이 전하는 메시지와 고민거리를 디자인에 담고 싶었습니다. 퍼즐을 맞추다 보면 모양은 맞는 것 같은데 그림이 맞지 않거나, 그림은 맞는 것 같은데 모양이 맞지 않는 경우가 있습니다. 그렇게 하나씩 고민해가며 목표하는 온전한 그림을 만들어 갑니다. 앞표지의 풍경과 뒤표지의 풍경이 책등을 중심으로 퍼즐 조각처럼 느껴지길 바랍니다. 이 책이 더 나은 내일을 위한 퍼즐 한 조각이 되길 바랍니다.

In a dense forest where birds have just begun to find their mates, one day an excavator arrives and tears the woods apart. Where should the birds go? They wander through a forest of apartment blocks that look like enormous rocks, drifting from place to place. “What does home mean to us? Can nature and people, forests and forests of buildings, truly coexist?” Through these and many other questions, this book invites us to think about a better future. I wanted to connect the front and back covers through the spine. With the peaceful forest on the front and the old neighborhood scene on the back, I hoped to weave the book’s message and its quiet sense of reflection into the design. When you work on a puzzle, sometimes the shape seems to fit but the picture doesn’t, or the picture feels right but the shape doesn’t. Piece by piece, you keep thinking, adjusting, until the whole image finally comes together. I hope the landscape on the front and the landscape on the back feel like two puzzle pieces meeting at the spine. And I hope this book becomes one small piece of the puzzle for a better tomorrow.
