페이퍼맨과 저의 이야기가 담긴 책 『페이퍼맨: 종이를 코딩하는 디자이너』를 기쁜 마음으로 소개합니다.

책의 1부에서는 페이퍼맨을 통한 저의 창작 여정과 생각들을 에세이로 담았습니다. 이어지는 2부에서는 「페이퍼맨 사용자를 위한 24가지 질문」과, 출판업계에서 일하고 있는 디자이너와 편집자분들께 종이와 책, 그리고 페이퍼맨에 대해 질문한 「페이퍼맨 사용자 인터뷰 시즌 2」가 독자분들을 기다리고 있습니다.

이 책은 2년 전 민구홍 선생님의 제안에서 출발하였습니다. 자전거를 처음 배울 때처럼, 서툴고 불안했지만 설렘을 안고 페달을 밟았습니다. 서툴게 페달을 밟는 저를 옆에서 잡아주신 안그라픽스 선생님들 덕분에 어느덧 재밌게 글을 쓰고 있었고 한 권의 책으로 완성할 수 있었습니다.

이토록 소중한 도전을 제안해 주시고 아름다운 추천사를 써주신 AG 랩의 민구홍 선생님과, 흔쾌히 출간 기회를 주신 안마노 대표님, 빛나는 추천사를 써주신 슬기와 민의 최슬기 교수님, 서툰 글에서 반짝이는 부분을 찾아 이끌고 다듬어 주신 이주화 선생님, 본문을 멋지게, 그리고 페이퍼맨답게 디자인해 주신 박현선 선생님, 그리고 페이퍼맨과 다양한 방식으로 함께하고 아껴주시는 모든 분들께 깊이 감사드립니다.

I’m delighted to introduce the book Paperman: A Designer Who Codes for Paper, a collection of stories about Paperman and myself.

In Part One, I share my creative journey and reflections through Paperman in the form of essays. In Part Two, readers will find “24 Questions for Paperman Users” as well as “Paperman User Interview: Season 2” a series of conversations with designers and editors working in the publishing world, where I asked them about paper, books, and Paperman itself.

This book began two years ago with a proposal from Min Guhong. Like learning to ride a bicycle for the first time, I was clumsy and unsure, yet full of excitement as I pushed down on the pedals. Thanks to the mentors at Ahn Graphics who held me steady at my side, I soon found myself enjoying the act of writing and before I knew it, a single book had come to life.

My heartfelt thanks go to Min Guhong of AG Lab for suggesting this precious challenge and for writing such a beautiful recommendation; to CEO An Mano for graciously offering the opportunity to publish; to Professor Sulki Choi of Sulki & Min for writing such a shining recommendation; to Juhwa Lee for discovering the glimmers within my awkward drafts and guiding and refining them; to Hyunsun Park for designing the pages so beautifully and in true Paperman spirit; and to everyone who walks alongside Paperman in so many different ways and cherishes it.

Je suis heureux de vous présenter le livre Paperman : un designer qui code pour le papier, un recueil d’histoires autour de Paperman et de moi-même.

Dans la première partie, je partage mon parcours créatif et mes réflexions à travers Paperman, sous forme d’essais. Dans la seconde, les lecteurs découvriront « 24 questions pour les utilisateurs de Paperman » ainsi que « Paperman User Interview : Saison 2 », une série de conversations avec des designers et des éditeurs du monde de l’édition, à qui j’ai posé des questions sur le papier, les livres et Paperman lui-même.

Ce livre a commencé il y a deux ans, à partir d’une proposition de Min Guhong. Comme lorsqu’on apprend à faire du vélo pour la première fois, j’étais maladroit et hésitant, mais rempli d’enthousiasme en appuyant sur les pédales. Grâce aux mentors d’Ahn Graphics qui me soutenaient à mes côtés, j’ai vite pris plaisir à écrire, et avant même de m’en rendre compte, un livre avait pris vie.
