한국타이포그라피학회 『전시 18: 조판공의 다리』 출품작. 「조판공의 다리」는 기묘한 호기심을 자극한다. 그 호기심을 해갈할 방법을 찾다 엉뚱한 상상을 해보기로 했다. 「조판공의 다리」의 시퀄(Sequel)인 「모호한 생각」을 썼고, 이를 조판하여 포스터 형식으로 소개한다. 「모호한 생각」은 소설 속 조판공이 왜 신문을 만드는지, 시민들은 왜 그의 정체에 대해 알지 못하는지, 8쪽 귀퉁이에 적힌 글자들은 무엇인지, ‘너’가 부고 면의 이름을 발견할 때마다 까닭 모를 슬픔과 수줍음을 느끼는 이유는 무엇인지 등을 마음대로 상상하고 추리한 결과물이다. 이 포스터를 마주한 분들이 「조판공의 다리」와 「모호한 생각」을 곱씹으며 추리해 보길 바란다.

An exhibited work for the Korean Society of Typography’s Exhibition 18: The Typesetter’s Bridge. “The Typesetter’s Bridge” stirs a strange kind of curiosity. Searching for a way to quench that curiosity, I decided to wander into an offbeat imagination. I wrote “Vague Thoughts”, a sequel to “The Typesetter’s Bridge”, and set it in type, presenting it in the form of a poster. “Vague Thoughts” is the result of freely imagining and piecing together why the typesetter in the story makes newspapers, why the citizens do not know who he truly is, what the letters written in the corner of page eight might mean, and why “you” feel an inexplicable sadness and shyness each time a familiar name appears in the obituary column. I hope those who encounter this poster will linger over “The Typesetter’s Bridge” and “Vague Thoughts” and try their own hand at unraveling the mystery.
